Digital Media Report

What is the purpose of the report?
 The purpose of the report is to keep technology up to date , it keeps a close eye on how they work and change over time.


What are the 5 main objectives set out by the report?
Modernising and upgrading our wired, wireless and broadcasting infrastructure to sustain Britain’s position as a leading digital economy.


 Providing a favourable climate for investment and innovation in digitalii.content, applications and services .

Securing a range of high quality public service content, particularly in news.

Developing the nation’s digital skills at all levels.  


Securing universal access to broadband, increasing its take-up and using broadband to deliver more public services more effectively and more efficiently.

What are the 7 main achievements that the report highlights? 
An analysis of the levels of digital participation, skills and access needed for the digital future, with a plan for increasing participation, and more coherent public structures to deal with it.

An analysis of our communications infrastructure capabilities, an identification of the gaps and recommendations on how to fill them.



A statement of ambition for the future growth of our creative industries, proposals for a legal and regulatory framework for intellectual property in a digital world, proposals on skills and a recognition of the need for investment support and innovation.


A restatement of the need for specific market intervention in the UK content market, and what that will demand of the BBC and its role in Digital Britain. What that means for the future of the C4 Corporation. 

An analysis of the importance of other forms of independent and suitably funded news, and what clarification and changes are needed to the existing framework.

What were the Governments targets by 2012? 
to ensure equalilty, everyone can use the nwtwork today and also, Deliver the Universal Service Broadband Commitment at 2Mbps (in more than 1 in 10 households).

What examples does it outline that the internet is useful for other than social networking?  Health Services -  internet can offer in-depth health information. 
 Online Shopping - most store give online discounts which is good, also online shopping is efficeient for the disabled.

Online Banking - quick and easy pay to pay bills, check your balance and transfer money.

Job Applications  - can feel more relaxed when looking for a job, would have someone breathing down you.

Self-publishing - Easy to build a name for yourself online, distributing your work onlline, espically social networking sites gets you fans quicker than if you were to go out and try and fight for your place in the lime light.

Communication- the internet provides and enables everyone to access free instant messaging which will benefit absolutely anyone.


What is the fundamental reason for improving Digital Media in Britain?
fairness, promote businesses, safer internet usage, keep up to date, be the best.

How does the digital sector in Britain compare to other countries?
with the digital sector in britian, we have more free will do so what we please on the internet, where as in most middle eastern countries and asain countries, they are restrcited and some sites are blocked such as youtube, facebook or twiter. 
 
Indicate some of the negative factors for people not accessing the internet. 
 People who do not have it are expected to be at a significant disadvantage. This is because people expect that more vital services will be delivered solely online in the future, or be provided offline in a way that penalises people who access them in this way, perhaps at a higher cost or lower quality. It is expected that people could lose access to a wide range of services and activities: shopping, banking, school work, public services, and downloading TV content.

Riots 2011

What was to be peaceful protest in north london, for Mark Duggen,turn rigorously into a historian date of our time. The London Riots 2011.

Mostly set up with social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter, and also messaging services such as blackberry, the riots caused havoc in and around the UK.

Because blackberry messenger is encrypted, it was hard for the police to find out when the next riots would be, their only other sources were facebook, twitter and of course, word of mouth. Blackberry users, who were involved in the riots and took this to their advantage. Numerous broadcast went around stating where and when the next riots will take place and also influencing people to be apart of it.

Police took advantage over facebook and twitter, and what evidence they found , they dealt with seriously. In the later stages on the riots, authority contacted blackberry to temporarily disable blackberry messenger, which didn't happen.

The government could not believe how quick the riots spread and how much damage was caused and blamed networking , networking via computers and phones have matured incredibly over time and It's causing trouble in society as such things can be organised in such big groups without networking of our time I don't believe the riots would of been set up as well as if did, if riots would of even happened at all without it, police were out numbered and the government was not ready.
